We The Light is made to emulate a constellation in which every person passing becomes one among the stars. The natural beauty of the universe is evoked to reveal connections between us and the rest of the world that often stay hidden in plain sight. As people move through the galaxy of stars, the light is extruded in their shape, living light trails of their presence across the star-scape.

The piece was recorded using Maja Petric’s custom interactive system that is programmed to recognize people in space, detect their bodies, record their silhouettes, and display them in the shape of stars.

Artist Bio: 

Maja Petric works with light and cutting-edge technologies such as AI to create immersive installations and dynamic sculptures that evoke the sublime in nature. Eliciting nature allows her to engage people with their innate connection with the environment and other fellow humans to the degree that one can recognize unity with something greater than oneself in a vast and interconnected universe. She has exhibited globally and received multiple prizes, including the Lumen Prize for Art and Technology for the best interactive art in 2019. Her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, Fast Co., FRAME, etc. Maja Petric won the 3D/Interactive Award in the 2019 Lumen Prize.
