The work is inspired by many legends and mythical stories surrounding Salamanders, the name derived from the greek term loosely meaning 'fire lizard', which often depict them as having the ability to both create and put out flames, and in some cases are born of fire themselves and are considered Fire Spirits.

Artist Bio:
Motomichi Nakamura is an award-winning Animator, Projection Artist and educator based in New York. Fascinated by stories of cryptozoological and mythical monsters and the feeling of being scared and excited at the same time he creates his own monsters by using black, white, and red with minimalistic graphic elements. He has exhibited globally in museums and galleries including the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, Winzavod - Moscow Contemporary Art Center, Olympia Park Munich among others. His animated films have been screened at Sundance Film Festival, Onedotzero Festival, and Edinburgh International Film Festival and his recent experimental film “Okami” won in The Leeds International Film Festival.
