You will get there faster if you slow down - while the title gives enough hints, the work is based on my emotional journey of training myself to slow down and take time to perfect things I normally rush through, in the end resulting in a better outcome.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 1994, Bethanya moved to the US in 2008 and went to obtain a BFA at the University of North Texas in 2018 and her MFA from Pratt Institute in 2021. She presently resides in Brooklyn, NY. Through her colorful palette, she captures her daily life encounters and moments while working primarily on acrylic on canvas. She is interested in capturing the everyday moments that are often overlooked as well as reflecting on her own life and emotions. After being introduced to fiber during her undergrad days, Bethanya grew interested in embroidery, tufting and faux fur in which she learned to intertwine with her paintings.
